Tsukio, a police officer so unnervingly calm and effective that his colleagues call him a robot, is one day summoned by his superiors and told to resign from the force. This abrupt dismissal is actually the first step in a clandestine operation: to infiltrate a powerful yakuza syndicate, climb its ranks, and seize control from the inside. The goal is not to destroy the organization outright but to co-opt it under the control of law enforcement through a strategy code-named "Back-Rank." Tsukio, now operating under a new identity as Inui, penetrates the heart of the criminal underworld where he must constantly navigate a web of violence, loyalty tests, and shifting alliances. His central antagonist is Izana Nagino, the young, charismatic underboss of the syndicate possessing an almost predatory intuition and a talent for psychological manipulation.
