Description
Tsukio, a police officer so unnervingly calm and effective that his colleagues call him a robot, is one day summoned by his superiors and told to resign from the force. This abrupt dismissal is actually the first step in a clandestine operation: to infiltrate a powerful yakuza syndicate, climb its ranks, and seize control from the inside. The goal is not to destroy the organization outright but to co-opt it under the control of law enforcement through a strategy code-named "Back-Rank." Tsukio, now operating under a new identity as Inui, penetrates the heart of the criminal underworld where he must constantly navigate a web of violence, loyalty tests, and shifting alliances. His central antagonist is Izana Nagino, the young, charismatic underboss of the syndicate possessing an almost predatory intuition and a talent for psychological manipulation. Izana immediately suspects that Inui is a plant for the police and dedicates himself to exposing him through schemes that are by turns seductive, violent, and cruelly clever. The series traces the escalating war of wits between these two singular figures, with each move in their deadly game carrying the potential to unravel the entire plan. A major narrative arc forces Inui into an impossible choice when Izana discovers his sole weak point—his older sister—and threatens her safety. Inui must decide whether to abandon his mission and protect his family by assassinating Izana, or maintain his cover at the cost of her life. The climax of the series pushes both characters to their limits in a final confrontation that decides who will ultimately control the organization and what the price of victory truly is.
