Description
In the fictional kingdom of Gogyōkoku, the northern capital of Genbu is home to a young girl named Tōko. Since childhood she has carried a single dream: to become the personal medicinal chef for Reishi, a mysterious beauty she met years ago. To pursue that dream, she disguises herself as a boy and studies medicine. Her life takes a sudden turn when she is summoned to the lord’s mansion and told she is the lord’s long‑lost daughter. Without warning, she is ordered to marry the emperor as his consort, given the new name Kotō. Dragged into the palace against her will, Tōko tries to behave in a way that will make the emperor dislike her. But while sneaking around in a physician’s disguise she makes medicinal steamed buns that catch the emperor’s favor. From then on she must live a double life: by day she is the imperial consort Kotō, and by night she is the male medical officer Tōko. She does not yet know that the emperor, Reishi, is the very person she has been searching for all her life. As her two identities grow more entangled, palace politics, rival consorts, and the threat of rebellion force her to use her medicinal skills to protect herself and those around her. The story follows Tōko’s struggle to maintain her secret, her slow‑burn relationship with the emperor, and the gradual unraveling of court conspiracies, all while she inches closer to the truth about Reishi and her own past.
