Description
"Full Moon wo Sagashite" centers on Mitsuki Koyama, a 12-year-old girl with a terminal throat tumor who dreams of becoming a professional singer. Due to her illness, she is unable to pursue her passion, as singing could worsen her condition. Mitsuki’s life takes a dramatic turn when she encounters two shinigami, Takuto and Meroko, who reveal that she has only one year left to live. The shinigami are tasked with guiding souls to the afterlife, but they make a deal with Mitsuki: if she agrees to let them guide her when her time comes, they will temporarily transform her into a healthy 16-year-old version of herself, allowing her to chase her dream.

Under the stage name Full Moon, Mitsuki begins her career as a singer, quickly gaining popularity. Her transformation not only enables her to sing but also to reconnect with her past. Mitsuki’s motivation stems from her childhood promise to Eichi Sakurai, a boy she loved who moved to America. She believes that becoming a famous singer will help her find him. As Mitsuki navigates the challenges of the music industry, she uncovers painful truths about her past, including the circumstances surrounding her parents’ deaths and Eichi’s disappearance.

Takuto and Meroko, the shinigami assigned to her, play pivotal roles in her journey. Takuto, a reserved and protective figure, harbors his own tragic past tied to Mitsuki’s life, while Meroko, more emotional and impulsive, struggles with her feelings for Takuto and her growing attachment to Mitsuki. Their interactions with Mitsuki reveal the complexities of their roles as shinigami and their own unresolved emotions.

The narrative explores themes of love, loss, and the pursuit of dreams against the backdrop of mortality. Mitsuki’s determination to live fully despite her limited time inspires those around her, including her manager, Masami Ooshige, and her rival, Izumi Lina. As the story progresses, Mitsuki’s relationships deepen, and she confronts the inevitability of her fate, ultimately leading to a poignant and bittersweet resolution that ties together the threads of her personal and professional life.
