In the current issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Japanese magazine Newtype, Yasuhiro Irie (known for works such as *Kurau: Phantom Memory*) announced that he will serve as the director for the upcoming TV series *Fullmetal Alchemist*, based on Hiromu Arakawa's manga series of the same name.
Aniplex producer Ryo Oyama, who is collaborating on this project with MBS' Hiro Maruyama, Square Enix's Nobuyuki Kurashige, and BONES' Noritomo Yonai, revealed that work on the title began as early as last spring. The TV broadcast is scheduled to start in April.
The animation will be produced by BONES' new D Studio. Hiroki Kanno (known for works such as *RahXephon*) will adapt the character designs, and Akira Senju (known for works such as *Red Garden*) will compose the soundtrack.
