The TV channel ARTE announced that it will broadcast the film "Mirai - The Girl from the Future" ("Mirai no Mirai") by Mamoru Hosoda as a German TV premiere. The film will air on August 4, 2021, at 11:55 PM with German dubbing on ARTE. A repeat broadcast is not currently planned.

The story of the film revolves around a family living in a small house in an obscure corner of a certain city—particularly focusing on the spoiled four-year-old boy of the family, Kun-chan. When Kun-chan gets a little sister named Mirai, he feels that his new sister has stolen his parents' love and is overwhelmed by many experiences he encounters for the first time in his life. Amidst this, he meets an older version of Mirai, who has come from the future.

Hosoda directed the film at his studio Chizu and is also credited as the screenwriter and original story creator. Hiroyuki Aoyama (animation director of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and The Boy and The Beast) and Ayako Hata (lead animator on the same films) returned as animation directors for this new film. Yohei Takamatsu and Takashi Omori, who had previously collaborated with Hosoda on The Boy and The Beast, returned as art directors. Producer Yuichiro Saito, who worked on Hosoda's earlier films, also returned.
