The TV anime adaptation of Mokumokuren's manga "The Summer Hikaru Died" has been announced for summer 2025 and will air on Nippon TV.

The horror-mystery manga tells the story of Yoshiki, a high school student living in a remote village. There, he experiences eerie incidents while living with Hikaru—a mysterious entity that imitates his childhood friend Hikari. The series, which blends coming-of-age and horror, is currently serialized in the online magazine Young Ace UP. Five compiled volumes have been released so far, and the sixth volume will be published on December 4. The manga won first place in the "Men's" category of This Manga Is Amazing! in 2023.

A teaser visual and trailer were released on November 27. The cast includes Chiharu Kobayashi as Yoshiki and Shuichiro Umeda as Hikaru. The series is directed by Ryohei Takeshita ("Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night"), with animation produced by CygamesPictures.

The series will also be streamed exclusively and in advance on Netflix and ABEMA.
