Cristiana Lionello
Description
Cristiana Lionello is an Italian voice actress and dubbing director, renowned for her extensive work in dubbing foreign productions into Italian, including a significant number of anime series and films. Born in Rome on June 14, 1961, she comes from a family deeply rooted in the performing arts; she is the daughter of the celebrated actor and voice actor Oreste Lionello, and her siblings, Alessia and Luca Lionello, are also voice actors. While her career encompasses a wide range of live-action dubbing for stars like Sharon Stone and Cate Blanchett, her contributions to anime are substantial and span several decades.
Lionello's voice became familiar to Italian anime audiences in the early 1980s through one of her most prominent roles. In the 1979 anime series Entaku no Kishi Monogatari: Moero Arthur, known in Italy as La spada di King Arthur, she voiced the character of Ginevra in the first Italian dubbing. Her work on this series was extensive, as she also provided the voices for other characters, including Queen Igraine and Guerrehet. This role was reprised for the series' second part, Moero Arthur: Hakuba no Oji. Around the same period, she took on the role of Rose in the OVA series Violence Jack and its sequels Violence Jack 2 and Violence Jack 3.
Her anime voice credits continued to grow in the following decades. She is recognized for her work in several popular and long-running series, including lending her voice to Mito Freecss and the character Super in the 1999 version of Hunter x Hunter. She also voiced the character Maschera Carnivora in an episode of Inuyasha. Her film work includes the role of Li Ielang in the Italian dubbing of the Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie. In a 2015 science fiction anime film Harmony, based on the novel by Project Itoh, Lionello voiced the character Oscara Stauffenberg. More recently, she voiced Slan in the third installment of the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc film trilogy, subtitled The Advent.
Beyond her work as a voice actress, Cristiana Lionello has also contributed to the anime industry in Italy as a dubbing director. She served in this capacity for the 1999 Hunter x Hunter television series and for the long-running series One Piece starting from episode 462. This role places her in a position of creative oversight, guiding the Italian dubbing process for these major anime properties. Her career demonstrates a deep and long-standing involvement in bringing Japanese animation to Italian audiences through both her vocal performances and her directorial work.
