Vittorio Di Prima was an Italian actor and voice actor, born in Palermo on 19 July 1941. He is primarily known for his extensive work as a dubbing artist, providing the Italian voices for numerous characters in film and television. He was active in his field from the early 1970s until his death in Rome on 9 February 2016.
Di Prima's career was defined by his voice work in animation, where he lent his voice to a wide array of characters in Italian-dubbed versions of foreign series and films. He was also a dubbing director, notably for early series of the popular anime Lupin III. His anime roles were varied and included characters in many well-known series. He voiced the character Genma Saotome in several productions related to the Ranma ½ franchise, including the film Team Ranma vs. The Legendary Phoenix. In the world of Lupin III, his roles included Gordon and Mamoo in Lupin III: Dragon of Doom, as well as Kovalski and Chin Chinchu in other Lupin III animated features. He also provided the voice for the character Ged, known as Sparviere in the Italian version, in the Studio Ghibli film Tales from Earthsea. His other notable anime credits include the role of Hydargos in a redub of UFO Robo Grendizer, Emperor Gohl in Getter Robot, and Don Zauker in Invincible Steel Man Daitarn 3. He also voiced the character of Master Splinter in the film TMNT.
Beyond Japanese animation, Di Prima was a prolific voice for characters in American animated productions. He is well-remembered for being the Italian voice of Henry J. Waternoose in Monsters, Inc., the Sheriff in Cars, and Animal from The Muppets franchise. His voice was also heard in numerous other films, such as Barbie as Rapunzel and Barbie of Swan Lake.
In addition to his animation work, Di Prima had a significant career dubbing live-action actors. He was the regular Italian voice for a host of acclaimed performers, including Morgan Freeman, Anthony Quinn, Leonard Nimoy, and Carl Weathers. He was married to fellow voice actress Ada Maria Serra Zanetti.
