He made his professional debut in 1985 with the series Nyantatte Hideyoshi, which was published in Weekly Shonen Magazine. Kawamoto is recognized as the original creator behind Tenkū Senki Shurato (Legend of the Heavenly Sphere Shurato), a manga series he authored in 1990 that was later adapted into a 38-episode anime television series.
