Kaoru Sakura
Description
Kaoru Sakura is a Japanese voice actress and singer affiliated with the agency Remax. Born on December 29, 1990, in Yamaguchi Prefecture, her interest in a voice acting career was sparked by playing the Super Nintendo Entertainment System visual novel Kamaitachi no Yoru, which lacked spoken dialogue. She trained at the Remax Attached Training School before beginning her professional career.
Sakura's first major and long-running role began in 2011 when she was personally selected by the producer to voice the character Witch in the Puyo Puyo video game series. Her performance became so iconic that the producer noted she was often mistaken for the character herself. This role established her as a recognizable talent in the gaming world.
She has built a diverse portfolio of voice roles in anime television series and games. In 2016, she starred as Koharun in the original television anime The Lost Village. Sakura voices Nagi Kobotoke, the fictional keyboardist for the in-universe band Irodorimidori, a role she originated in the Chunithm rhythm game and later reprised for the 2022 Irodorimidori anime adaptation. Another significant role is Chitose Kurosaki in the popular The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls franchise, appearing in both its games and the 2019 spin-off anime short. Her work in the early 2020s includes voicing Chiko Sekino in the 2020 comedy series Dropout Idol Fruit Tart and Eru Amami in the 2021 multimedia project D_Cide Traumerei the Animation.
Beyond her voice acting, Sakura is also a singer, contributing to several character song CDs and music releases. Her work within The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls franchise has led to commercial success; the singles The Idolmaster Cinderella Starlight Master for the Next! 01: True Colors and The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls Starlight Master 38: Fascinate, on which she performed, both reached number seven on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart. Her filmography also includes a wide range of other roles, such as Natsuno Minami in the video game 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Elle Nishino in Shōjo Kageki Revue Starlight: Re LIVE, Andreana in Arknights, and numerous supporting characters in anime like The Quintessential Quintuplets and Interspecies Reviewers. Her work also extends to original net animations and video games, demonstrating a consistent presence across the industry.
