Aneko Yusagi is a Japanese novelist known for creating the popular light novel series The Rising of the Shield Hero, which has since expanded into a multimedia franchise including manga, anime, and spin-off works. Aneko Yusagi was born in Kanagawa Prefecture and developed an interest in writing from a background in reading and gaming. Their career began on the Japanese web fiction platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō, where they first started posting novels in October 2012.

The creator's debut work was Dimension Wave, which began serialization in October 2012 and was later published in print by the Hero Bunko label in 2019. Later that same month, Aneko Yusagi began publishing what would become their most famous work, The Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yūsha no Nariagari), on Shōsetsuka ni Narō. The series gained significant readership due to its rapid update schedule and compelling story, becoming an online hit. The Rising of the Shield Hero received its official light novel release in 2013 under the Media Factory MF Books imprint, featuring illustrations by Seira Minami. The series has since continued with over twenty-two volumes and a spin-off series, The Reprise of the Spear Hero, which began in 2017.

The Rising of the Shield Hero received a manga adaptation illustrated by Aiya Kyū beginning in 2014, and the light novel and manga were licensed for English release by One Peace Books starting in 2015. An anime television series adaptation produced by Kinema Citrus premiered in January 2019, with subsequent seasons following in later years. As the original creator, Aneko Yusagi is credited for the source material that has been adapted into these anime productions, including the crossover series Isekai Quartet and its films, as well as The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4.

Following the success of their debut, Aneko Yusagi has written several other light novel series, primarily in the fantasy and isekai genres. These include Ore dake Kaereru Kurasu Teni (2015-2017), Dokutsukai no Dōbōsha (2017-2018), and Isekai no Sensha Toshite Kuni ni Manekareta Kedo, Kotowatte Heishi Kara Hajimeru Koto ni Shita (2019), the last of which won the Manga Adaptation Prize at the 7th Netto Shōsetsu Awards. A consistent theme across Aneko Yusagi's works is the fantasy genre, often featuring protagonists transported to other worlds who must overcome significant adversity. In the industry, Aneko Yusagi is recognized as a significant figure in the isekai genre, with The Rising of the Shield Hero standing as one of the notable works that helped popularize the genre in the 2010s, leading to multiple anime adaptations, manga series, and an ongoing light novel publication.
