Matthew Yang King is an American actor recognized for his extensive work in voice acting across animation, video games, and film. His career encompasses a wide range of roles in both English-language productions and English dubs of Japanese anime and other international projects. He is known for his characterizations in series such as Batman Ninja and Bright: Samurai Soul, as well as for his contributions to major video game franchises.

King’s path to performance began with formal training at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Following his education, he gained experience in live theatre, notably as part of the first national touring company of the musical Titanic. This stage work led to a move to Los Angeles, where he transitioned into on-screen and voiceover roles. His early voice acting credits include the English adaptation of the Studio Ghibli film Only Yesterday, demonstrating an early connection to anime and Japanese animation.

In the realm of anime and anime-influenced animation, King has contributed to several notable titles. He voices the character Eian in the animated film Batman Ninja, which transports the DC Comics characters to a Japanese historical setting. He also plays the role of Kōketsu in the Netflix film Bright: Samurai Soul, a spin-off set in the same universe as the live-action film Bright. His work in this area extends to other projects, including providing voices for the English version of the anime series Naruto.

Beyond these specific credits, King’s voice acting career is prolific and diverse. He has lent his voice to numerous video game characters, with one of his most prominent roles being Illidan Stormrage in the World of Warcraft franchise. He has also portrayed Splinter and Shredder in projects related to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Persuader in Justice League vs. The Fatal Five, and characters in the animated series Transformers: Robots in Disguise and Supah Ninjas. In addition to his performance work, King is also a writer, director, and producer. He created the steampunk-themed web series The World of Steam, which was crowdfunded through Kickstarter and noted for being a high-grossing web series campaign on the platform at the time.
