Hajime Kamoshida

Description
Hajime Kamoshida is a Japanese novelist and screenwriter born on April 11, 1978, in Kanagawa Prefecture. His career as a writer began in 2007 with the light novel series Kami Naki Sekai no Eiyū-den, published under ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko imprint. Following this debut, he authored the Kaguya: Tsuki no Usagi no Gin no Hakobune series and a standalone novel, Houkago Idol, before achieving broader recognition.

Kamoshida's first major success came with The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, a romantic comedy light novel series illustrated by Keeji Mizoguchi. The series was published in 13 volumes from January 2010 to March 2014. Its popularity led to a 24-episode anime television adaptation by J.C.Staff that aired from October 2012 to March 2013, as well as a manga adaptation. Following the conclusion of Sakurasou, Kamoshida began his most renowned work, the Rascal Does Not Dream series. Also illustrated by Keeji Mizoguchi, this supernatural-tinged romantic drama light novel series was published in 15 volumes from April 2014 to October 2024.

The Rascal Does Not Dream series has been adapted extensively across multiple media. A 13-episode anime television series covering the first five volumes, titled Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, was produced by CloverWorks and aired in late 2018. The story continued with a series of films: Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl (2019), Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out (2023), and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid (2023). A second anime television series, Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus, premiered in July 2025. Multiple manga adaptations, each illustrated by a different artist, have also been serialized to cover various story arcs.

Beyond creating these original works, Kamoshida has an extensive history as a screenwriter for anime productions. His credits include writing individual episodes for series such as Selector Infected WIXOSS, M3: The Dark Metal, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. He also served as the series composition writer and scriptwriter for the original anime Just Because! in 2017.

Thematically, Kamoshida's original works often blend elements of romantic comedy and psychological drama with supernatural phenomena. The Rascal Does Not Dream series in particular is noted for using a concept called Adolescence Syndrome to explore the anxieties, social pressures, and emotional turmoil of adolescence. His narratives frequently focus on character-driven drama where interpersonal relationships and personal growth are central. His career reflects a significant presence in the contemporary light novel and anime industry, having created two highly successful multimedia franchises while also contributing as a writer for other notable anime projects.
