Wakana Maruoka
Description
Wakana Maruoka is a Japanese voice actress and singer born in Tokyo on May 13, 1995. Initially considering a career as a civil servant, she developed an interest in voice acting after being drawn to fictional worlds and decided to pursue this path following her graduation from high school. She is a graduate of the Tokyo Seiyu Academy and is affiliated with the agency With Line. Her career began in earnest in 2018, a pivotal year in which she was cast in her first major and defining role.
Maruoka's most significant and long-standing role is that of Rinze Morino in the popular multimedia franchise The Idolmaster Shiny Colors. She was cast in March 2018 as a member of the in-game idol unit Houkago Climax Girls, a role that also involves singing and performing on numerous music releases associated with the franchise. In a 2022 interview, she reflected on her portrayal of the quiet and traditional Rinze, noting how her interpretation of the character evolved over time. The role of Rinze Morino remains a cornerstone of her career, leading to appearances in related games and the 2024 anime adaptation of the franchise.
Following her debut, Maruoka has taken on a variety of supporting and lead roles in anime television series and video games. In late 2021, she was announced as the voice of Ireena Litz de Olhyde, a lead character in the 2022 fantasy anime series The Greatest Demon Lord is Reborn as a Typical Nobody. Another notable lead role followed in 2023 when she was cast as Sumire Kasahara in the anime adaptation of the manga My Clueless First Friend. In 2024, she was cast as Yuki Suou in the anime series Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian.
Beyond these prominent roles, Maruoka has built an extensive filmography across various media. Her work in video games is particularly prolific, with credits including Urara Yume in Magia Record, Lujei Piche in the remastered game GrimGrimoire OnceMore, and Leonardo da Vinci in Azur Lane. She has also voiced characters in games such as Touhou LostWord, The DioField Chronicle, and Kemono Friends 3. Her early career included numerous minor roles in anime like Anima Yell!, Gurazeni, Harukana Receive, and Rascal Does Not Dream.
As a singer, her work is deeply connected to her role in The Idolmaster Shiny Colors. She has performed on several singles with her unit Houkago Climax Girls, including Yumesaki After School, which reached number eight on the Oricon Singles Chart, and Synthe-Side 02, which charted at number twenty-five. She was also a member of the voice actor unit teaЯLove, which formed in 2018.
