Masanori Shinohara
Description
Masanori Shinohara is a Japanese voice actor and narrator born on December 2, 1953, in Nagano Prefecture. He is affiliated with the Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society. His path to a career in voice acting was indirect. Initially, he did not actively pursue voice work, despite an interest in animation. His entry into the industry came through narration, and it was while working as a narrator that he was offered the role that would define his career. He made his voice acting debut in 2001, using his real name, Masanori Shinohara written with kanji characters, for his first role. From 2004 onward, he began using the hiragana version of his given name, Masanori, for his professional activities.
Shinohara is almost exclusively known for a single, long-running major role: Kazuya Mishima in Bandai Namco Entertainment's Tekken series. He was cast as the character for Tekken 4, a game he personally did not play and was initially unaware of the character's significance within the franchise. He has since voiced Kazuya in every mainline Tekken title, beginning with Tekken 4 and continuing through the latest installment, Tekken 8. His portrayal of the character extends to various crossover games, including Street Fighter X Tekken, Project X Zone 2, The King of Fighters All Star, and as a downloadable content fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He also reprised the role for the Netflix animated series Tekken: Bloodline.
Outside of his work on the Tekken franchise, Shinohara's professional focus is on narration. He has provided voiceovers for numerous television programs, particularly news and variety shows across major Japanese networks like Nippon TV, Fuji TV, and TBS. This body of work as a narrator constitutes the majority of his professional output, with his voice acting roles being far more limited.
