Yoshiki Usa
Description
Yoshiki Usa is a Japanese anime producer, designer, and manga original creator. He is a member of the creative group supercell, known for producing music for vocaloid songs and anime soundtracks. Professionally, he has worked as an art director at a design company, specializing in print media.
Usa is best known as the original creator of the short-form CG anime series Wooser's Hand-to-Mouth Life. The series originated from a long-running text-based diary column on his personal website, titled "Usa Kyōju no Mudagaku Kenkyūshitsu" (Professor Usa's Useless Studies Laboratory) and later "Ūsā no Sono-hi-gurashi" (Wooser's Hand-to-Mouth Life). This column was adapted into a four-panel manga illustrated by Tomoko Fujinoki, which was serialized online and later compiled into book format. The character Wooser, a mysterious yellow creature, is noted to reflect Usa's own personality, and he is often referred to by colleagues as "Usa-san." The manga was first adapted into an anime in 2012, with two subsequent seasons produced in 2014 and 2015. For the first season, Usa served as the original creator and producer. For the second season, Wooser's Hand-to-Mouth Life: Awakening Arc, he took on additional roles as series composer. By the third season, Wooser's Hand-to-Mouth Life: Mugen-hen (Dream Arc), he was credited for the original concept, series composition, and script.
Beyond the Wooser franchise, Usa is the original creator of the anime Working Buddies! (Hataraku Oniisan!). This series of five-minute shorts follows the daily odd jobs of two college student cats, the cheerful orange tabby Tapio Chatorazawa and the pessimistic Russian blue Kuehiko Roshihara. The anime premiered in 2018 and received a second season later that same year. For this series, Usa is credited as the original creator and also handled series composition and scriptwriting.
Usa has maintained a significant presence in the anime industry as a producer and executive, particularly at studios TRIGGER, where he serves as a representative director, and GOOD SMILE COMPANY, where he is an executive officer. His production credits include a wide range of notable titles such as Little Witch Academia, Kiznaiver, SSSS.Gridman, and the acclaimed web series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, on which he also served as series composer and scriptwriter. His work often involves launching original projects and managing large-scale productions, reflecting his role as a creative producer who bridges original concepts with animation studio execution.
