Debra Cardona is an American actress, singer, and voice artist known for her work across theater, television, and animated media. Born and raised in New York City to parents of Puerto Rican descent, she is a Nuyorican performer who has built a career on both the East and West Coasts. She is married to fellow voice actor Darin De Paul. Cardona's foundation in performance was established through extensive formal education. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, where she studied under the renowned acting teacher Stella Adler. She later received a Master of Fine Arts in Dramaturgy from Brooklyn College and also studied at the Royal National Theater Studio in London. Before becoming a prominent voice in animation and video games, Cardona had an extensive career in live theater. She appeared in the Broadway revival of Funny Girl and has performed at numerous prestigious regional theaters across the country, including The Guthrie, the Denver Center, and Paper Mill Playhouse. Her stage work has been directed by notable figures such as Sir Richard Eyre and Sir Trevor Nunn. In addition to her acting, she has worked as a dramaturg for companies like the Classical Theatre of Harlem and has sung in concerts at Carnegie Hall. Cardona transitioned into on-screen and voice work in the mid-2010s. One of her most recognized voice roles in anime is Tsubone in the English language version of the Netflix series Aggretsuko. She voiced the character, a senior accountant and antagonist to the show's protagonist, from the series' debut in 2018 through its later installments. Beyond anime, Cardona has built an extensive portfolio in video game voice acting. Her work in this field includes voicing multiple characters in the Fallout universe for Bethesda. In Fallout 76, she portrayed Joanna Mayfield in the Steel Reign update and Lennox in The Pitt expansion, later reprising her role as Lennox and voicing a new character, Mother Charlotte, for the Expeditions: Atlantic City content. She has spoken publicly about the personal significance of bringing her Puerto Rican heritage to the character of Lennox. Her other video game credits include the role of Prophet of Profitability in The Outer Worlds: Murder on Eridanos. Cardona's voice can also be heard in other animated projects. She voiced the character Maria in the popular Netflix animated series Love, Death & Robots. In the Pixar series Cars on the Road, she provided voices for multiple characters, including a female police car and a character named Squat. Her on-screen television appearances include a recurring role as Estela, Hector's mother, on the CW series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. She has also guest-starred in shows such as Scandal, Fresh Off the Boat, and Angel From Hell. In 2019, she appeared in the live television production of Rent: Live, playing multiple roles including Ali, a vendor, and Angel's mother.
