Michaela Murphy

Description
Michaela Jill Murphy, also known by her former stage name Jessie Flower, is an American voice actress recognized for her work in animation and anime English dubs. Born on August 18, 1994, in Southern Indiana, she began her acting career at a young age after moving to Los Angeles with her mother. Her early voice-over work began at the age of seven, with one of her first roles providing additional voices for the Pixar film Finding Nemo in 2003. She went on to voice characters in several major animated productions, including the role of Chaca in Kronk's New Groove and its spin-off series The Emperor's New School, as well as the young Franny in Meet the Robinsons. Murphy later attended Yale University, graduating in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and Film Studies, with concentrations in Playwriting and Screenwriting.

Murphy's most prominent and enduring role came in 2005 when she was cast as Toph Beifong in the acclaimed Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender. Initially, she voiced the minor character Meng in a first-season episode, but her performance impressed the show's creators, who then cast her as the main character Toph for the series' final two seasons. She was only eleven years old when she took on the role. She reprised her connection to the franchise years later, voicing a young Suyin Beifong, Toph's daughter, in a 2014 episode of the sequel series The Legend of Korra. In 2021, she participated in a live reading of the comic Toph Beifong's Metalbending Academy, once again providing the voice for Toph.

In the realm of anime voice work, Murphy provided the English dub voice for the character Nasse in the 2021 anime series Platinum End. Nasse is a guardian angel who saves the protagonist and grants him special powers. This role marked a significant credit for Murphy in the anime industry, where she is credited under her full name, Michaela Murphy. Prior to this, she had voiced the English dubbed version of the character Eiko Carol in the 2016 video game World of Final Fantasy. She also had a small role in the English dub of the anime Super Cub in 2021.

Beyond specific recurring collaborations, Murphy's career demonstrates a long-standing association with the Avatar franchise, having worked with creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino on both The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. She has also frequently participated in conventions and podcasts related to the series, further cementing her connection to that body of work. Her notable achievements include being cast in a leading role in a critically acclaimed series at a young age and successfully transitioning to new roles in anime dubs and other projects after completing her higher education. In 2020, she also founded Bandit Basics, an e-commerce platform selling merchandise inspired by her character Toph Beifong.
