Volkmar Leif Gilbert is a German actor and voice artist known for his work in theater, film, and synchronization, the German term for dubbing. Born in 1991 near Berlin, he grew up with an interest in the performing arts and took his first acting and singing classes during his school years. He pursued professional training at the Schauspielschule Charlottenburg in Berlin, completing his education there in 2012. His career began in theater and short films, with his first role in the 2011 short film It's consuming me. Throughout the 2010s, he appeared in numerous stage productions across Germany, many of which incorporated his singing abilities, such as Cabaret and Harold and Maude, as well as the long-running play Die Fete endet nie in Dresden. He has also appeared on television, including a role in the ARD soap opera Rote Rosen in 2019.

In addition to his on-screen and stage work, Gilbert has built a substantial career in voice acting, providing the German voice for characters in various international productions, particularly for streaming platforms like Netflix. He is recognized in the anime community for his voice roles in German dubs. He voices the character Dom in the anime series BEASTARS, a role he has performed in twelve episodes across the first two seasons of the show. He also voiced the lead character Cherry in the 2021 anime film Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop. His other notable voice work in animation includes the lead role of Richard in the film Überflieger Das Geheimnis des großen Juwels and the role of Naoufel in the film I Lost My Body.

Gilbert's voice acting career involves frequent collaboration with German dubbing directors and studios in Berlin. He has worked with dialogue director Jan Fabian Krüger on multiple projects, including I Lost My Body and Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop at RRP Media. His dubbing work is often recorded at studios such as SDI Media and Iyuno Germany, and he has collaborated with casting director Johannes Steinert on several productions for Netflix.

Beyond performance, Gilbert has received recognition for his acting, having been named Best Upcoming Actor for the 2013-2014 period. He is also active behind the scenes as a stage author and director, and he leads an amateur theater group in Berlin. He is a member of the German actors' union BFFS and a supporter of the Queer Media Society.
