Evan Maltby

Description
Evan Maltby is a voice actor based in New York known for his work in English dubs of anime series. He began his career in the performing arts as a child, starting at around seven years old when he joined the New York City Opera Children's Chorus, an introduction facilitated by his mother, a pianist and voice coach. This early experience in opera led to his involvement in theater, and he later attended Williams College in Massachusetts, where he studied comparative literature while actively participating in theatrical productions. Before gaining prominence in anime dubbing, Maltby was involved in New York's theater scene, including performing with the Flea Theater and originating the role of Tuxedo Gary in the serialized live-action show Kapow-i GoGo at the Peoples Improv Theater.

Maltby entered the field of voice acting as an adult, joining the English dub cast of the Pokémon anime during its Sun & Moon series. His first major role in the franchise was voicing Guzma, the boss of Team Skull, marking his entry into anime voiceover work. This role established his presence in the industry and led to further opportunities in other prominent anime series.

He is perhaps best known for his role as Rino Nanahoshi in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens anime series. Rino is the bespectacled and devoted secretary to the student council president, known for his loyalty and serious demeanor, who later becomes a supporting character in the series' exploration of the new Rush Dueling format. In his portrayal of Rino, Maltby was part of a voice cast that recorded the series bicoastally, involving actors from New York, where he is based, as well as from Dallas and Los Angeles. He also voiced the character Rinkage Nanahoshi, a historical ancestor of Rino, in a later episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens.

His association with the Pokémon anime continued beyond his debut, with his credit as a voice actor listed for the series. His other voice acting credits include roles in productions such as Lucas and the Stars, People People, and the television series Hack My Life.
