Ruri Umino
Description
Ruri Umino is a Japanese voice actor and former idol, primarily known for her work within the multimedia project 22/7. Born on August 8 in Tokyo, she began her career in December 2016 after successfully passing the highly competitive auditions for the new "dimension-crossing" idol group produced by Yasushi Akimoto, beating out over 10,000 applicants. In May 2017, she was formally announced as the voice actor for the character Jun Toda, a role that would define her career in the project.
As a member of 22/7, Umino's work was multifaceted. She not only provided the voice for Jun Toda but also performed as the character through motion capture for music videos and virtual YouTuber content. Her portrayal of Toda, described as a tsundere character who acts high-class, extended to the group's television anime series 22/7, which aired in 2020. Beyond animation, her activities with 22/7 included appearing on variety shows like 22/7 Keisanchū, hosting radio segments, and performing in live concerts as both a voice actor and an idol. She also took on minor voice roles in other anime during this time, such as in Persona 5 the Animation and Beastars.
Umino's tenure with 22/7 was marked by a deep engagement with her character, often referring to Jun Toda as her "cute daughter" and striving to embody her accurately in all performances. Her personal interests, such as her fondness for the idol group SKE48 and anime like Inuyasha and Love Live!, were well-known among fans. She also possessed several skills, including playing the flute and saxophone, and had experience in kendo. After being an integral part of the group since its formation, Umino graduated from 22/7 on November 30, 2021. Following her departure, she has continued to work as a freelancer under the name Ruri Yoshimiya.
