Yasuyoshi Hara

Yasuyoshi Hara is a Japanese actor and voice actor affiliated with the literary theater company Gekidan Bungakuza. He was born in Tokyo on April 13, 1952. His path to performance began after high school when he enrolled in the drama program at Tama University. Following his university years, he joined the Bungakuza研究所 (Kenkyūjo) in 1975 to further his training and first appeared on stage in 1978. He became a full company member in 1980 and has since remained a central figure in its theatrical productions.

While theater is the foundation of his career, Hara has built an extensive and prolific body of work in voice acting. He is particularly well-known for providing the Japanese dubbed voices for numerous Hollywood actors. He is a regular voice for performers such as Billy Bob Thornton, Dennis Quaid, Kyle MacLachlan, Kurt Russell, and Kevin Costner. His dubbing credits also include the voice of Agent Cooper in the 2022 anime series Spriggan and several roles in the live-action Transformers film series, where he dubbed General Morshower.

In addition to his work in dubbing foreign films, Hara has an extensive list of roles in original Japanese animation. A long-running and prominent role is that of Ted, the Man with the Yellow Hat, in the Japanese broadcast of the animated series Curious George, a part he has played since the show began airing in Japan in 2007. His other notable anime roles include Anji Yūkyūzan in Rurouni Kenshin, Ivan in the OVA series Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still, and a reprisal of the character Ivan in its spin-off, Gin Rei. In 2005, he voiced the character Takeo Ei in the animated war drama film The Glass Rabbit. More recently, in 2019, he took on the role of Codfrey in the anime film Lupin the IIIrd: Fujiko Mine's Lie. He also voiced the character Yang Wen-li in the 1992 adaptation Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Golden Wings.
