Ken Matsudaira

Description
Ken Matsudaira is a Japanese actor and singer primarily known for his extensive work in television and film, particularly in period dramas. He was born Sueshichi Suzuki on November 28, 1953, in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. While his career is centered on live-action performance, he has also contributed his voice to a select number of anime films.

Matsudaira's acting career began in the early 1970s, and he rose to national prominence for his leading role as Tokugawa Yoshimune in the long-running television series Abarenbō Shōgun, a role he played for a quarter of a century. His filmography includes numerous other historical dramas, known as jidaigeki, where he has portrayed famous figures such as the warrior monk Benkei and the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu.

His work in voice acting is a minor but notable facet of his broader career. He has provided voices for characters in three anime films. In 2011, he voiced the character Mikoshi Nyūdō in the film Tōfu Kozō. He was also a voice actor in the 2013 film Doraemon: Nobita's Secret Gadget Museum. More recently, he participated in the 2019 anime film Her Blue Sky, contributing his voice to the cast. Additionally, his voice work extends to the 2014 television anime series Rowdy Sumo Wrestler Matsutaro!!, where he played the role of Matsutarō Sakaguchi.

Given the limited number of his voice acting credits, there are no significant recurring collaborations with specific anime directors or studios that define this aspect of his career. His achievements are overwhelmingly concentrated in live-action performance, where he has received awards such as the Elan d'or Award for Newcomer of the Year and the Kazuo Kikuta Theatre Award. His voice roles in anime are therefore best understood as occasional projects within a long and distinguished career as a television and film actor.
