Yuki Takao
Description
Yuki Takao was a Japanese voice actress and singer-songwriter active in the entertainment industry from 2013 to 2017. She was born on June 30, 1990, in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. Her career was marked by a dual pursuit of both acting and music, often performing under the stage name Yuka for her musical work.
Takao's path to voice acting began in her youth, inspired by series such as Sailor Moon and the work of voice actress Minami Takayama. She actively pursued this goal from a young age, submitting over one hundred audition applications during her junior high and high school years. After focusing on vocal training and live performances, she eventually passed an audition with the agency A-Sketch, marking her official entry into the industry.
Her debut and first major role came in 2013 as Nanami Kanzaki in the television anime series A Town Where You Live, also known as Kimi no Iru Machi. This role required her to master the Hiroshima dialect for the character, a task she approached with significant effort.
Following her debut, Takao secured a variety of roles in both anime and video games. Her notable anime roles included Aruka in Blade & Soul, Maria Sarushima in Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, and additional characters such as Yashima in Noragami and Noragami Aragoto. In the gaming world, she voiced the original Ai Ogura in the long-running social simulation game Girlfriend (Kari) and appeared in titles like Maiden Craft and LaLa Magic.
Throughout her career, Takao was also the lead vocalist, lyricist, and composer for the pop musical unit mimi meme MIMI. The group, affiliated with the same agency, performed songs for various anime soundtracks. Her work as a singer-songwriter was an integral part of her artistic identity, and she continued to write lyrics and compose music for other artists even after her retirement from performing. In early 2017, she briefly formed a new unit called POLKA DOTS with fellow voice actress Himika Akaneya.
Yuki Takao retired from the entertainment industry in July 2017. Following her retirement, some of her past roles, such as Ai Ogura in Girlfriend (Kari), were recast to other voice actors. Although she stepped away from the public eye, her legacy in anime and music continued through her recorded performances and her ongoing, albeit behind-the-scenes, contributions to music for other artists, including providing lyrics and composition for Rikako Aida's debut album in 2020.
