TNSK
Description
TNSK, also known by the reading Tansuke, is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator. The pen name TNSK is derived from the creator's favorite snack, Ponsuke, combined with the initial of their surname T. TNSK is based in Kyoto, Japan, and is a member of the creation circle called Kabe no Saido, which translates to Wall Saturation. Records indicate a birth date of June 15, though the year is listed in some sources as 1984 and in others as 1987. TNSK has been active as a professional illustrator since approximately 2009.
TNSK is the author and illustrator of several manga series. The most notable and widely recognized work is My Master Has No Tail (Uchi no Shishō wa Shippo ga Nai). This series was serialized in Kodansha's seinen manga magazine good! Afternoon from January 7, 2019, to January 5, 2024. The chapters were collected into twelve tankōbon volumes, released from September 2019 to February 2024. The story is a fantasy set in Japan's Taisho period (1912-1926) and follows Mameda, a tanuki (raccoon dog) girl with the ability to transform. She dreams of becoming human and travels to Osaka, where she meets Bunko, a rakugo storyteller who is also a supernatural being. Mameda asks Bunko to become her master and teach her how to pass as a human.
Prior to this success, TNSK created other manga series. These include Toki Doki Sou, which ran from 2009 to 2013; Black Rock Shooter THE GAME, serialized from 2011 to 2012; Karasuma 0-jou Tandai -Magical Girl Wars-, published from 2014 to 2015; and Aidoru Smash! (Idol Smash!), serialized from 2016 to 2018. TNSK has also contributed as a character designer and illustrator for various projects. These credits include providing the original character designs for the anime series Magical Girl Wars in 2014, illustrating novel covers for works such as The Last and the First Idol by Gen Gen Kurano, and creating illustrations for Vocaloid songs and albums, including works by the producer Hachiouji-P.
The most significant adaptation of TNSK's work is the anime television series of My Master Has No Tail. Produced by Liden Films, the anime aired in Japan from September 30 to December 23, 2022, spanning thirteen episodes. The series was directed by Hideyo Yamamoto, with Touko Machida overseeing the series composition. The anime adaptation brought TNSK's original story and characters to a wider audience, establishing the creator as a notable figure in contemporary manga. The manga was licensed digitally in North America by Kodansha USA, and the anime was licensed by Sentai Filmworks for streaming on Hidive. Through a combination of long-form serialized storytelling in major publications and a distinctive illustration style showcased in tutorials and art books, TNSK has built a recognizable identity within the industry as both a visual artist and a narrative creator.
