Atami Michinoku

Description
Atami Michinoku is a Japanese manga creator known for work in the shoujo, boys love (BL), and high school romance genres. The creator is best recognized for writing and drawing the yonkoma comedy manga The High School Life of a Fudanshi. This original work began serialization online in Ichijinsha's Zero-Sum Online magazine, with the first tankōbon volume released on September 25, 2015. The series concluded on September 7, 2018, spanning five compiled volumes. The manga is licensed for English release in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment.

The popularity of the original manga led to an anime adaptation. The High School Life of a Fudanshi was produced by the studio EMT Squared and broadcast in Japan from July 5, 2016, to September 20, 2016. The anime consists of twelve episodes, each with a runtime of approximately four minutes. The story follows Ryo Sakaguchi, a straight high school boy who is a fudanshi, meaning he is obsessed with boys love fiction. The series is a self-referential comedy that parodies common BL tropes and explores the experience of being a fan of the genre.

Beyond this flagship title, Atami Michinoku has created several other manga works. These include Sayonara Red Beryl, published across three volumes beginning in March 2021, and Die Rippe des Adam, a two-volume series released in late 2021. Other notable titles are Caligula's Love, which has at least two volumes, and the single-volume work Yakuza Angel, published in July 2024. Many of these works fall within the boys love genre and are noted for their focus on romantic and comedic elements. The creator has maintained a consistent presence in the manga industry, contributing primarily to publications under Ichijinsha's various imprints.
