Reinhard Kuhnert

Description
Reinhard Kuhnert is a highly accomplished German actor and voice actor, born in Berlin in 1945. His career is deeply rooted in the performing arts, having studied at the Theaterhochschule and the Literaturinstitut in Leipzig. Before his extensive voice work, he built a substantial career as a playwright, theater actor, and director, working on stages in both East and West Germany, as well as internationally in countries like Ireland and Australia. In the former East Germany, he also wrote for television, including scripts for the popular series Polizeiruf 110. After his works were banned from public performance in East Germany, he emigrated to West Germany in 1985.

Kuhnert began his work in dubbing, the process of creating voiceovers for foreign-language films and series, in 1967. Over a career spanning more than five decades, he has become one of the most prominent voices in German dubbing. He is particularly well-known as the standard German voice for several acclaimed international actors. These include David Strathairn, whom he has voiced in films like The Bourne Ultimatum and Nomadland, Victor Garber in series such as Alias, and Peter Coyote, André Dussollier, and William H. Macy. His extensive voice work encompasses thousands of roles in film and television.

In the realm of anime and animation, Reinhard Kuhnert has contributed his voice to several notable titles. He is the German voice for Inspector Takasugi in the anime series Black Jack, providing the voice for the character in its 2006-2007 German synchronization. He also voiced the character Kaiser in the series Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit. His work extends to Western animation as well; he provided the voice for the character Gall Trayvis in the German version of Star Wars: Rebels.

Beyond his work in on-screen dubbing, Reinhard Kuhnert has garnered significant acclaim as an audiobook narrator. He is the voice behind the German audiobook editions of George R. R. Martin's epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, known in Germany as Das Lied von Eis und Feuer, which was adapted into the television series Game of Thrones. His performance of these works was so highly regarded that he received a gold record from Audible for this narration. His narrations are noted for their warm, dark timbre that draws listeners in. He continues to be active as a writer, having published a novel for adults, Abgang ist allerwärts, and a children's book, Fionas Feen.
