Malia Ashley Kerr began acting at the age of four, inspired by her older brother, who was also an actor. Her early career included live-action roles in television projects such as the ABC holiday film Santa Baby 2 and the Lifetime movie The 19th Wife. She transitioned into voice acting when she was cast as a lead voice for the Nickelodeon animated series LaLaLoopsy, providing the voice of the character Peanut Big Top for over thirty episodes across two years. Her work as Peanut Big Top extended to video games, DVDs including LaLaLoopsy Babies: First Steps and LaLaLoopsy: Festival of Sugary Treats, and a doll that featured her voice lines.

In the realm of anime dubbing, Kerr was directly cast for an English-language role in the Japanese animated series Future Card Buddyfight, where she voiced the character Hanako Mikado, the younger sister of the protagonist. She recorded for multiple seasons of the show. Her other anime voice work includes a guest-starring role as Saya in another Japanese animated series, Cardfight!! Vanguard. Her voice work in anime was frequently done in collaboration with Chinook Animation.
