Sally Amaki
Description
Sally Amaki is an American singer and voice actor based in Tokyo, Japan. She was born in Los Angeles, California, on April 26, 2000, to Japanese parents who had emigrated to the United States. Her first language is English, and she also speaks Japanese, as well as some French and Spanish. Before moving to Japan, Amaki trained in ballet and ice skating.
Amaki moved from Los Angeles to Japan in 2016 to pursue a career in voice acting, motivated by the positive influence anime had on her life. She initially failed many auditions, partly due to her then-limited Japanese proficiency. In December 2016, she successfully auditioned for a new project by producer Yasushi Akimoto, which would become the voice-acting idol group 22/7. Although she was initially reluctant to take on the role of an idol, joining the group marked the beginning of her professional career.
As a member of 22/7, which debuted in 2017, Amaki is known as the group's overseas representative. Within the multimedia project, she provides the voice and motion capture for the animated character Sakura Fujima, a role she reprises in the 2020 television anime series 22/7. Amaki gained significant international attention after a video of her speaking English went viral on social media, leading to her character being rewritten as an English speaker.
Her bilingual ability in English and Japanese has become a hallmark of her career. She voiced the character Carol Olston in both the Japanese and English dubs of the 2023 anime series Tomo-chan Is a Girl!. This opportunity to perform the same role for both language versions is a rare achievement. Amaki has also taken on roles that utilize her language skills in other ways, such as hosting the English-learning podcast "Anime English Club with Sally Amaki," which began in 2025.
Amaki has built a diverse filmography across anime television series, films, and video games. In addition to her role in 22/7, her major anime voice roles include Akubi in the 2019 film Pandora to Akubi, Jimena Valdez in the 2021 series Let's Make a Mug Too: Second Kiln, and Kathrina Griebel in the 2023 series World Dai Star. She has also had roles in Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia, Peach Boy Riverside, Bocchi the Rock!, and Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night. In 2025, she played the role of Lily Baker in the anime series Cultural Exchange with a Game Centre Girl and also contributed to its theme music.
Her voice work also extends significantly to video games. She voices Kiriko Kamori in the English version of the popular game Overwatch 2. Other notable game roles include Ashley Taylor in Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story and Peni Parker in Marvel Rivals, for which she provided voice work in both English and Japanese dubs.
Beyond acting, Amaki is active as a host and media personality. In March 2023, she co-hosted the 7th Crunchyroll Anime Awards in Tokyo, marking the first live ceremony for the event. She has also served as a master of ceremonies for events like Aniplex Online Fest. Amaki has been open about her experience with social anxiety disorder, which she announced in 2019, leading her to step back from certain types of events while receiving treatment.
