Julio Lorenzo

Description
Julio Lorenzo is a Spanish voice actor who has worked extensively in both the Galician and Spanish dubbing industries since 1988. He is known for his versatility, providing voices for animation, live-action series, documentaries, and video games, as well as working as a dubbing director.

Lorenzo began his career after responding to a newspaper advertisement for a dubbing course at the age of twenty. One of his earliest and most iconic roles was as the first Galician voice of Son Goku in the anime series Dragon Ball for the TVG channel. This work made him a foundational figure for the Xeración Xabarín, a generation of Galician youth who grew up watching dubbed programs. A notable piece of dialogue from this role, "Voute esnaquizar, miñoca," was improvised by the director due to translation difficulties.

Throughout his long career, Lorenzo has voiced a wide array of characters. In Spanish, he is recognized as the voice of Stoick the Vast in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise and took on the titular role in the 2015 series Inspector Gadget, a part for which he studied the previous work of Jordi Estadella as requested by the production company. His voice work in animation also includes roles in The Smurfs 2. Beyond animation, he has voiced characters in live-action series such as Jeff in Community.

In addition to character dubbing, Lorenzo is a prominent voice in documentary narration. He was the voice of Discovery Channel for sixteen years, working on programs like How It's Made, and has expressed a deep appreciation for the educational value of this work.

Lorenzo is also an experienced dubbing director, having directed projects for major platforms including HBO, Netflix, Amazon Prime, TVG, and La Sexta. He works out of the Cinema Iberolusa studio in Vigo, where he also serves as a dialogue adapter and trainer for new voice actors. He has noted the significant changes in the dubbing industry over the decades, from a more collaborative, analog process to the current digital era where actors often record individually. He has also expressed a desire for more video game voice work to be produced in Galicia.
