Christopher Robin Miller
Description
Christopher Robin Miller is an American actor and voice artist best known for providing the English voice of Professor Hershel Layton in the popular video game series and its animated film adaptation. His interest in vocal performance began in childhood, where he would mimic sounds and voices from television and his surroundings. He began his professional voice acting career after meeting a talent manager from Los Angeles in Salt Lake City, eventually securing his first job through persistence.
Miller's most prominent and defining role is that of Professor Layton, the gentleman archaeologist and puzzle solver. He voices the character in all English-language releases of the main video games, including the original trilogy and the prequel series, as well as the 2009 anime film Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva. For this role, he drew inspiration from Sebastian Cabot, the actor known for voicing Owl in Winnie the Pooh, using him as a template for a quintessential English gentleman. His work on the franchise also involved voicing other characters who interact with the professor, such as his rival Don Paolo and Inspector Chelmey, often requiring him to perform dialogue between these different roles in the same recording session.
Beyond the world of Professor Layton, Miller has a diverse body of voice work. His credits include cartoons such as Tiny Heroes and The Princess and the Pea Chronicles, and the video game Twisted Metal: Small Brawl. He has also performed in over three thousand radio and television commercial spots. In addition to voice acting, Miller has appeared in on-screen roles in television and film, working with directors such as Rob Reiner and Steven Soderbergh. He is also a writer, director, and producer, developing his own sketch comedy show.
Miller's contributions to voice acting have been recognized within the industry. He has received multiple award nominations from the National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers (NAVGTR) for his performances as Professor Layton in games like Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box and Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. For the latter role, he was also nominated for a Behind the Voice Actors Award for Best Male Lead Vocal Performance. He has shared his expertise by teaching voice acting classes at Brigham Young University and through his own professional workshops.
