Sante Calogero

Description
Sante Calogero was an Italian actor and voice actor, born on July 7, 1928, in Mili San Marco, Messina, and passed away on November 30, 2005. He trained at the Academy of Dramatic Arts before moving to Milan, where he built a substantial career in theater, television, and dubbing. His stage work included a long association with the Teatro Angelicum in Milan, where for about 25 years he performed in adaptations of children's stories, and later, from 1985 to 1997, he worked with director Giorgio Strehler at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano.

He was also active on screen, appearing in several Italian television series during the 1980s, notably in the role of Sam, the grandfather of the character Licia, in the popular series Love Me Licia, Licia dolce Licia, Teneramente Licia, and Balliamo e cantiamo con Licia.

However, Calogero is perhaps best recognized for his extensive work dubbing animated series for an Italian audience. His voice became familiar to viewers of many imported anime. Among his most notable roles were Piero in the various series of Calimero, the character of Oz in Space Oz no Bōken, and Frate Tuck in World Fairy Tale Series. He voiced Sebastian in the soccer-themed anime Ashita e Free Kick, known in Italy as Forza campioni. In the educational series Seimei no Kagaku Micro Patrol, he was the voice of Neurotrasmettitore.

His dubbing career spanned a wide variety of other productions. He contributed to the Italian versions of Saint Seiya (I Cavalieri dello zodiaco), as the Maestro dei 5 Picchi and Mylock; City Hunter and its sequel; Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files as George Saotome and Gokumonki; and Robotech, among many others. For a period between 1986 and 1988, he also worked as a singer under the pseudonym Enzima, a name inspired by his role in the series Seimei no Kagaku Micro Patrol.
