Matt Greenfield

Description
Matt Greenfield is an American producer, scriptwriter, director, and voice actor best known for co-founding the anime licensing and distribution company A.D. Vision (ADV) and for his extensive work on English-language adaptations of Japanese anime. Born Matthew Brian Greenfield on January 12, 1965, in Sacramento, California, his career in the anime industry began in Houston, Texas, where he ran an anime club called Anime NASA starting in 1985. In 1992, he co-founded ADV Films with John Ledford, a company that would become a major force in bringing anime to North American audiences. For nearly seventeen years, Greenfield served in leadership roles at ADV, including general manager and vice president, and was involved as a producer or executive producer on the majority of the company's releases.

While his primary role was behind the scenes, Greenfield also contributed as a voice actor, frequently using the pseudonym Brian Granveldt. His voice acting emerged from the practical needs of ADV's early dubbing operations, where he would often fill minor or secondary roles due to studio constraints or a personal interest in the part. This practice led to a substantial number of acting credits in many of the company's most prominent titles. Some of his notable voice roles include providing additional voices for the influential series Neon Genesis Evangelion, as well as for films like Slayers: The Motion Picture and Spriggan. In the 1998 film Spriggan, he is credited in the role of Additional Voices for the English version. He also contributed to Samurai Shodown: The Motion Picture in the role of Additional Voices. In addition to these, he has voiced characters in series such as Gensô jodan Elicia, Sukeban Deka: Gyakushû-hen, and the English adaptation of the Gamera films. His role as White Deer in the series Coicent is also part of his voice acting portfolio.

Given his central position at ADV, Greenfield frequently collaborated with a consistent group of voice actors and production staff based in Houston. He worked extensively with actors such as Tiffany Grant, to whom he was married from 2003 to 2018, Jason Douglas, John Swasey, and Brett Weaver, among many others who were part of the ADV regular cast. He also frequently collaborated with production staff like Rob Mungle and David Grundy. His work as a director and writer intersected with his acting, as he directed and wrote for series in which he also sometimes performed, such as Compiler and Chrono Crusade.

Beyond his work with ADV, Greenfield continued his involvement in the industry after the company ceased active acquisition of new media in 2009. He became involved with new ventures, including Switchblade Pictures and the animation label Maiden Japan. He continues to write and produce English dubs for distributors such as Sentai Filmworks and Section23 Films through the post-production studio Seraphim Digital. His achievements are marked by a prolific career with over a thousand production credits, including work on hundreds of anime and live-action titles, and he remains a recognized figure at anime and science fiction conventions.
