Minoru Yada

Minoru Yada is a Japanese actor and voice actor born on April 27, 1931, in Tokyo, Japan. He began his entertainment career in 1939 as a child actor and has remained active in the industry for over eight decades. Throughout his long career, he has been affiliated with several theatre companies and talent agencies, including Gekidan Haiyuza and Gekidan Kawa, and has worked as a freelancer. In his later career, he was represented by KeKKE Corporation.

Yada is known for his extensive work in anime, often voicing elderly male characters and authority figures. Some of his earliest and most prominent television anime roles include Professor Shikishima in the 1963 series Tetsujin 28-go and the Grandpa in the 1972 series Kashi no Ki Mokku, also known as Mokku of the Oak Tree. He played the character Silas in the 1980 adaptation of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and was the voice of Hemulen in the 1990 series Tanoshii Moomin Ikka, a role he reprised in the 1992 film Moomin Tanii no Suisei (Comet in Moominland). His filmography also includes roles such as Grandpa Bekon in the 2010 film You Look Delicious (Omae Umasoudana) and the Village Elder in the 2003 television anime series Takahashi Rumiko Gekijou.

In addition to his television work, Yada has had a significant presence in animated films. He voiced the character Niga in the 1984 Studio Ghibli film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and provided a voice for the 1994 Ghibli film Pom Poko. He also voiced an old man in another Ghibli film, Porco Rosso, in 1992. He has been a frequent contributor to the long-running Doraemon film series, with credits including 2112-nen Doraemon Tanjou and Doraemon: Nobita and the Spiral City.

For his contributions to the voice acting profession, Minoru Yada was honored with the Merit Award at the 14th Seiyu Awards in 2019.
