Kanan Minami

Kanan Minami is a Japanese manga artist born on November 12, 1979, in Saitama Prefecture. She is a creator of shōjo manga, a category of comics aimed at a young female audience, and has been active since her debut in 1999. Minami is best known for her series Honey x Honey Drops and Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu, both of which have been adapted into anime. Her work is primarily published by Shogakukan in the magazine Shōjo Comic, and she has become one of the more commercially successful creators in her genre.

Minami is credited as the original creator behind several notable manga series. Her most famous work, Honey x Honey Drops, was serialized from 2004 to 2006 and spans eight volumes. The series was adapted into a two-episode original video animation released in 2006, and also served as the basis for a PlayStation 2 dating simulation game. Another major work, Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu, was serialized from 2008 to 2011 and is a best-selling title comprising fifteen volumes. This series also received an OVA adaptation in 2010. Her other manga include Ren'aishijōshugi, an eight-volume series published between 2003 and 2004; Rhapsody in Heaven, a three-volume series from 2007; and Miseinen Dakedo Kodomo Janai, which ran from 2012 to 2016. Her earlier works include short story collections such as Kakene nashi no LOVE torihiki and Chain of Pearls.

The artist has achieved significant commercial success and industry recognition. By 2010, her cumulative sales had surpassed ten million copies. In a 2011 ranking by Nikkei Entertainment magazine of the top fifty manga creators by sales since January 2010, Kanan Minami placed twenty-fourth. Her series Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu was noted as her representative work for this ranking, with nearly two and a half million copies sold during that period. She has also contributed to several collective anthologies, including Love & Sex and Geki ai motto motometai.

Kanan Minami gave birth to a daughter in 2014. She continues to be identified as a prominent figure in shōjo manga, recognized for her significant sales and the successful adaptation of her stories into other media.
