Erik Colin

Description
Erik Colin was a French actor and voice actor born on July 6, 1947, in Nantes, France. He passed away on November 15, 2013. Before becoming a prominent figure in dubbing, he was known for his on-screen roles, most notably as Lieutenant Duvauchel in the first two films of the popular La Septième Compagnie comedy series in the 1970s. His career gradually shifted towards voice work, where he became a familiar voice to French audiences for decades.

In the realm of anime and animation, Colin contributed his voice to numerous series and films. He is notably recognized for his work in the French dub of the B't X franchise. In the original B't X television series and its sequel, the B't X Neo OVA series, he voiced multiple characters. His roles included the titular mechanical warrior X (also known as B'T X), as well as Fao, Amigo, Captain Hook, Chaos, and the protagonist's father. This demonstrates his versatility in taking on both heroic and antagonistic roles within a single production.

Beyond B't X, his extensive voice filmography in animation includes major roles in several internationally known series. He was the first French voice of Patrick Star in the long-running series SpongeBob SquarePants from its inception in 1999 until his death in 2013, also voicing the narrator and the Flying Dutchman. He was a prolific presence in the Digimon franchise, serving as the narrator for the early series and voicing characters such as MetalGarurumon, Diaboromon, Stingmon, and MaloMyotismon across Digimon Adventure 02 and Digimon: The Movie. His other notable anime credits include roles in Wakfu as the character Qilby, Monster Rancher as Harry and Mocchi, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, and Saint Seiya Omega as Zenzo.

Colin frequently collaborated with a consistent group of fellow voice actors at French dubbing studios, particularly on anime projects. For instance, on the French adaptation of B't X and B't X Neo at Studio SOFI, he worked alongside Donald Reignoux, Catherine Desplaces, and Lionel Tua, among others. Similarly, his work on various Digimon series often featured him alongside the same pool of talent, such as Catherine Desplaces. This points to his integration within a regular community of dubbing artists in France.

A significant achievement of Erik Colin's career was his prominence as a voice director in addition to his acting. He served as a dialogue director for the French versions of several major American television series, including The Sopranos, Nip/Tuck, Dead Zone, and the animated series Danny Phantom. His work as the French voice of iconic characters like Tony Soprano in The Sopranos and Captain Leland Stottlemeyer in Monk further cemented his reputation as one of France's most recognizable and accomplished voice talents before his passing in 2013.
