Jorge Pires was a Brazilian actor and voice actor, recognized for his extensive work dubbing numerous characters in animated series and films for the Brazilian Portuguese market. He was born Jorge Manuel Pires Cordeiro on January 7, 1931, in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul. Before gaining prominence in dubbing, Pires began his career in 1948 as a radio announcer and also worked in theater and film, appearing in several Brazilian productions throughout the 1970s, including films with the renowned comedian Mazzaropi.

He entered the field of dubbing in 1966 and remained active until approximately 1999, contributing his voice to a vast array of characters across various studios over the decades. His work spanned classic live-action series and films, where he often dubbed prominent actors such as Bud Spencer, Richard Attenborough in Jurassic Park, and James Whitmore in The Shawshank Redemption. However, he became particularly well-known to audiences for his performances in animated productions and Japanese series.

Among his most notable roles in anime and animation are the characters specified. He voiced the powerful Muay Thai champion Sagat in the Brazilian dubbing of Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. In the series Bōken Shōnen Shadar, he was the voice of Cachorro. His work also included the character Jambavan in the film Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, and he additionally voiced another character, Maricha, in the same production. He lent his voice to Gazelle in the OVA Ozanari Dungeon: Kaze no Tou. For the classic series Under Sea Boy Marine, known in some regions as Marine Boy, he was the voice of Professor Fumble in a new dubbing. He also voiced King Morpheus, known as Rei Morpheus, in the film Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland.

Throughout his long career, Pires worked consistently with several major dubbing studios in São Paulo, including Álamo, BKS, S&C, and Marshmallow, among others. His versatility allowed him to portray a wide range of characters, from villains and authority figures to comedic and wise roles. Some of his other memorable voice performances in animation included being the first voice of Grandpa Phil in the initial dubbing of Hey Arnold!, Scrooge McDuck in a VHS version of DuckTales, and Gomez Addams in the 1970s animated series The Addams Family. Jorge Pires passed away on June 23, 2000, in São Paulo.
