Bob Bergen

Description
Bob Bergen is an American voice actor recognized for his extensive work in animation, including significant contributions to English-language dubs of Japanese anime. Born on March 8, 1964, in St. Louis, Missouri, his career in voice acting began in the early 1980s and has spanned over four decades. His entry into the field was driven by a childhood aspiration to voice the character Porky Pig, leading him to study under prominent voice coaches in Los Angeles, including Daws Butler, and train at the Groundlings improv school and a Meisner acting conservatory.

Bergen's involvement in anime dates back to the late 1980s and early 1990s, primarily through dubs produced by Streamline Pictures. He provided the voice for the lead character, Arsène Lupin III, in several English dubs of the popular Lupin III series, including the films The Mystery of Mamo and The Castle of Cagliostro. He also contributed to the Streamline dub of the landmark film Akira, voicing the characters Masaru, Kaisuke, and others. During this period, he took on roles in other OVA titles, such as Shougo Yahagi in Megazone 23 and Hiro Takagi in Lily C.A.T., both for Streamline Pictures. His anime voice work later included the role of No-Face in the Academy Award-winning Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away.

In addition to these roles, Bergen voiced Dr. Ayerton in the original English dub of the television series Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water and provided the voice for the character Mame in the more recent animated film A Letter to Momo. His work has also extended to voicing characters in English adaptations like Teknoman, an edited version of the series Tekkaman Blade.

Beyond his anime contributions, Bergen is most widely known as the primary voice of the Looney Tunes character Porky Pig, a role he has performed since 1990, marking his 35th year in the part as of 2025. His voice is featured in thousands of commercials and numerous major animated feature films from studios such as Pixar, Disney, and Illumination, including Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Up, and the Despicable Me series. He has also voiced Luke Skywalker in various Star Wars video games and animated projects like Robot Chicken.

Bergen's work has earned him recognition within the industry, including multiple Daytime Emmy Award nominations for his voice-over performance in The Looney Tunes Show and an Annie Award nomination for his role in Duck Dodgers. He is also an in-demand coach for aspiring voice actors.
