Sergio Fiorentini

Description
Sergio Fiorentini was an Italian actor and voice actor, born in Rome on 29 July 1934, who became prominently known for his extensive dubbing work, particularly for anime series and films targeted at the Italian market. He began his career on stage in the 1960s and transitioned into voice acting, becoming a highly active figure in the Italian dubbing industry until his death in Rome on 11 December 2014. His voice became familiar to Italian audiences through numerous roles in both live-action and animated productions.

Fiorentini contributed significantly to the world of anime, lending his voice to a wide array of characters in Italian-language adaptations. Among his most notable anime roles are Dr. Kotaro Azuma in the series Casshan and the Spirito della Lampada in Alibaba to Yonjubiki no Tozuku, also known as Alibaba and the Forty Thieves. His work spanned several decades and included a variety of classic and popular series. He voiced the beloved grandfather, Alm-Onji, in the foundational series Heidi, Girl of the Alps, and took on the role of the villainous Count Cagliostro in the first Italian dubbing of Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. His other anime credits include characters in Tekkaman, the Space Knight, Hurricane Polymar, Charlotte, Nobody's Boy Remi, and providing the narration for the Italian version of Transformers: Armada. He also voiced the character Nume Okkoto in a modified dubbing of the acclaimed film Princess Mononoke.

While his work in anime was extensive, Fiorentini's career was even more broadly defined by his dubbing of Western animation and live-action film. He is perhaps most widely recognized in Italy as the voice of the mandrill Rafiki in the Disney film The Lion King and its subsequent sequels and series. In live-action, he was the official Italian voice for actor Gene Hackman in the majority of his films and also dubbed actors such as Eli Wallach, Jack Warden, Bill Cosby, and Max von Sydow. His long and prolific career was recognized with a Career Achievement Award at the Gran Galà del Doppiaggio-Romics in 2005.
