Francette Vernillat, born France Benitte on April 16, 1937, in Strasbourg, was a French actress whose career became closely associated with voice acting, particularly for animated series. She began her career as a child performer in the late 1940s, appearing in films and on stage before dedicating herself to the art of dubbing from the 1960s onward. She passed away on December 2, 2019, in Fontenay-lès-Briis.

Vernillat became a familiar voice to French audiences through her extensive work in dubbing, where she was frequently cast in the role of young boys in both live-action series and animated programs. Her voice is featured in numerous anime series that were localized for French television during the 1980s and 1990s. Among her most recognized roles in animation is the title character in the series Bouba (Monarch: The Big Bear of Tallac), where she voiced the young bear cub in its first French dub. She also lent her voice to the character Paul Goemon in the fishing anime Tsurikichi Sampei, known in French as Paul le pêcheur.

Her work extended to a variety of other animated productions. She voiced the character Nabot in the series Mori no Yōki na Kobito-tachi: Berufi to Rirubitto. In the soccer-themed anime Moero! Top Striker, she voiced multiple characters, including Maria and Wols. Perhaps one of her most enduring and iconic roles was providing the French voice for the titular character in the 1980s animated adaptation of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Her involvement with the character of Tom Sawyer also included an audio recording of the story in 1992.

Beyond these specific titles, her filmography in anime is extensive. She provided voices for numerous other series, including Acrobunch, Judo Boy, Kaiketsu Zorro (as Bernardo), Robin Hood (as Much), and various roles in series like Dirty Pair, Sherlock Hound, and Mister Ajikko. Her work was characterized by a distinct ability to portray youthful energy, making her a go-to voice for child characters in the French dubbing industry for several decades.
