Description
Joelle Guigui is a French actress primarily known for her extensive work in dubbing, where she has lent her voice to numerous characters in animated series and films. Born in Casablanca, Morocco, she later moved to Marseille, France. Before pursuing a career in voice acting, Guigui studied medicine. She entered the field of post-synchronisation, the art of dubbing, in 1983.
Guigui is perhaps most widely recognized as the French voice of Bart Simpson in the animated series The Simpsons, a role she performed from the show's inception in French in 1990 until 2012. Her naturally youthful voice was a key factor in her being chosen for the character. Beyond this iconic role, she has been a prolific voice in the French adaptations of many American and Japanese animated series. She was, for instance, the second French voice of Daphne Blake in various Scooby-Doo series and films throughout the 2000s.
Her contributions to anime dubbing are extensive and encompass many of the roles listed. In the film Queen Millennia, she provided the voice for Hajime Amamori. For the series Attack No. 1, known in French as Les Attaquantes, she voiced the character Alice Lequere, as well as Ingrid and Rachel. In the series Arrow Emblem Grand Prix no Taka, which is also referred to as Super Grand Prix in French, she voiced the character Elodie. She was the voice of Princesse Kimara in the series Blue Blink, also known as Magie bleue in French. For the anime Kickers, titled But pour Rudy in French, she voiced Eric Turner among other characters.
Guigui's work on the series Attacker You!, known in French as Jeanne et Serge, was particularly prolific. She voiced multiple characters in the French version, including Peggy Hayaze, Tulia Kaido, Kibi, Noa Shinoda, and Chibi. Her other notable anime roles include Lynn Minmay in Robotech, multiple characters in Captain Tsubasa (Olive et Tom) such as Mark Landers and Bruce Harper, and various roles in Ranma ½, Saint Seiya (Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque), and Dragon Ball GT.
In addition to animation, Guigui's dubbing career extended to live-action television. She was the regular French voice for actress Laura Leighton in the series Melrose Place and its revival, as well as for Mia Kirshner in The L Word and The Vampire Diaries. She also worked on dubbing for films, such as providing voices in Space Jam and various direct-to-video Scooby-Doo movies, and for video games, including The Simpsons: Hit and Run and Discworld II.
