Ricardo Medrado

Description
Ricardo Medrado was a Brazilian voice actor recognized for his work in dubbing, particularly active from the mid-1980s until his departure from the field in the second half of the 1990s. His career was closely associated with the Álamo dubbing studio in São Paulo, where he was frequently cast in various productions.

Medrado's most iconic and enduring roles were in Japanese tokusatsu series that became popular on Brazilian television. He is widely remembered as the voice of Tsurugi Hiryuu, the Change Dragon character, in the series Changeman, and as the villain Macgaren in the series Jaspion. Notably, he inherited both of these roles from other voice actors who had dubbed the initial episodes. His performances in these two series are often cited as the work that most defined his legacy and left a lasting impression on audiences. Following the success of these early roles, he provided voices for numerous other tokusatsu productions, including Flashman, Jiraiya, Jiban, Metalder, and Kamen Rider Black RX, where he voiced the character Joe Kazumi. He also voiced the villain General Gailer in the series Sharivan.

In the realm of anime, Ricardo Medrado voiced the character Dr. Cameron in the Portuguese dubbing of the 1987 original video animation Scoopers. He also lent his voice to the character Drew Pickles in the Brazilian version of the animated series Rugrats - Os Anjinhos.

Throughout his career, Medrado maintained a strong working relationship with the Álamo studio and its artistic coordinator, Líbero Miguel, who respected him greatly. He was known among colleagues for having an energetic temperament and a personality that could shift between calm and agitated, but he was also regarded as a good person. Outside of his voice work, he had a passion for rock music and sound equipment, eventually leaving the dubbing profession to open a small factory that built speakers and amplifiers. Ricardo Medrado passed away in 2002.
