Lee Soeun

Description
Lee Soeun is a South Korean voice actress known for her calm yet gentle high-toned voice, which allows her to portray a wide range of characters from innocent girls and boys to mature women. She was born on July 19, 1977, and her real name is Lee So-young. She joined the CJ ENM Voice Actor Association as part of its 6th class in April 2006, working exclusively with them until 2009, when she transitioned to a freelance career.

Before becoming a voice actress, Lee Soeun worked as a traffic broadcast reporter, a stage host, and a local broadcast station reporter. Her path to voice acting was driven by a long-held ambition; she commuted weekly from Daegu to Seoul to take classes at the KBS Academy for five years before finally passing the audition to join the industry.

Her career is marked by a significant and beloved role as Sawako Kuronuma in the Korean dub of the anime Kimi ni Todoke (I Hope You Can Reach Me). Initially auditioning for a different character, her impromptu performance as Sawako impressed the director and won her the part, which became her first lead role and a defining moment in her career. This performance earned her the affectionate nickname Sawa Soeun from fans. Another notable early role was Suu in A Little Snow Fairy Sugar, which is often cited as a turning point where her acting skills began to receive widespread recognition.

Her filmography includes a diverse array of characters across different series. She voiced Ryu in Kaleido Star and Actor Kyeong in Crayon Shin-chan. She has also taken on roles with supernatural elements, such as the ghost Yeo-ryeong in Sket Dance, a part for which she also voiced the character Lim Ah-young, and Seol Ji-hyun in the horror game White Day: A Labyrinth Named School. In Sket Dance, she demonstrated her range by performing a two-person role with distinctly different characterizations. She also voiced the character Audrey in the game The Strongest Corps, a role she felt a strong attachment to because it allowed her to use a voice closer to her natural tone.

Lee Soeun is recognized among her peers for her thorough preparation and dedication to her craft, often filling her scripts with notes, even for minor roles. Her colleagues describe her as having a kind personality, and she is known to be deeply affected by emotional moments. She is married and has two sons.
