Horst Lampe was a German actor and voice actor, recognized for his extensive work in dubbing international film and television productions for German-speaking audiences. His career was primarily based in Germany, where he lent his voice to hundreds of characters across live-action films, animated series, and anime.

Lampe's path to voice acting began with training in performance. After completing his schooling, he worked at the DEFA film studio and studied at the Filmhochschule Babelsberg from 1956 to 1959. He gained initial experience through stage engagements in Meiningen and Halle, as well as roles in film and television productions during the 1960s and 1970s. From 1986, he worked as a freelance actor, dedicating himself more intensely to dubbing and voice-over work.

Throughout his prolific career, Lampe became a familiar voice in numerous major film franchises. He provided the German voice for Governor Sio Bibble in the Star Wars prequels The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. He was also the voice of Soundwave in the live-action Transformers films Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon, as well as Shockwave in the latter. In animation, he voiced the Autobot Ratchet in the series Transformers: Animated and was the regular German voice for the Looney Tunes character Foghorn Leghorn from the 2000s onward.

Lampe was also significantly involved in dubbing anime, bringing characters to life for German viewers. He is well-known for voicing the mysterious and influential SEELE chairman Keel Lorenz in various productions of the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. This included the original television series, the films The End of Evangelion, and the Rebuild of Evangelion films, for which he recorded new dialogue for later DVD and streaming releases. His other anime roles included Imperator Dornkirk in The Vision of Escaflowne.

His dubbing career was marked by recurring collaborations with specific actors. He became a well-known voice for actors such as Robbie Coltrane, whom he dubbed in series like Black Adder and the film Van Helsing; Bruce Dern in the series Big Love; and Oliver Ford Davies in his Star Wars appearances. Beyond film and television, his voice was featured in numerous radio play productions, including popular series like Bibi and Tina and Elea Eluanda. Horst Lampe passed away in Potsdam on September 2, 2021, at the age of 84, leaving behind a substantial body of work comprising nearly 600 voice roles.
