Jan Nonhof

Description
Jan Nonhof is a Dutch actor, voice actor, and dialogue director, recognized for his extensive contributions to the Dutch-language dubbing of numerous international animated series and films. Born on December 9, 1947, in Monster, Netherlands, he began his career in theater, performing with companies such as the Haagse Comedie, before becoming primarily active in dubbing work. Since 1995, he has also worked as a dubbing director at Wim Pel Productions.

Nonhof is perhaps best known for providing the Dutch voice of Meowth from Team Rocket in the Pokémon anime for the first seven seasons, from 1997 to 2006. His association with the franchise includes voicing Meowth in several related films, such as Pokémon: The First Movie, Pokémon: The Movie 2000, and Pokémon 3: The Movie, as well as other specials. He also voiced the character Giallo in the miniseries Pokémon Generations. Beyond Meowth, his work in the Pokémon franchise extended to providing the voice of Mewtwo in the Dutch version of Pokémon: The Movie 2000.

Another of his most prominent and long-running roles is Squidward Tentacles (known as Octo Tentakel in Dutch) in the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise, a character he voiced from 2002 continuing into the 2020s across the series, films like The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, and the spin-off Kamp Koral. In addition to voicing the character, Nonhof also served as the director for the Dutch dub of SpongeBob SquarePants.

His career features a wide array of other notable voice roles. In animated series, he has been the Dutch voice of Denzel Crocker and Juandissimo in The Fairly OddParents, Jerry in Totally Spies!, Hugh Test in Johnny Test, and various characters in Digimon, including Gabumon, Myotismon, and Gennai. He has also voiced characters in Sailor Moon, Hamtaro, Winx Club, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, and Star vs. the Forces of Evil. For Disney, he has voiced Scrooge McDuck in the 2017 DuckTales series, Chick Hicks in the Cars films, and Moliere in Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

In video games, Nonhof has contributed voices to the Dutch localizations of the Harry Potter series, playing roles such as Professor Severus Snape and Lord Voldemort, and has voiced the character Jean Descole in several Professor Layton games.

In recognition of his significant impact on the quality of dubbing in the Netherlands, Jan Nonhof was awarded the Zilveren Koe (Silver Cow) in 2009.
