Hideo Kinoshita

Hideo Kinoshita was a Japanese actor and voice actor born on July 17, 1931, in Tokyo Prefecture. He was a graduate of the fifth Tokyo Broadcasting Drama Troupe, where his classmates included the notable figures Satomi Kyoko and Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. Kinoshita passed away on March 8, 2014.

His career spanned both on-screen acting and extensive voice work in animation and foreign film dubs. In animation, he is recognized for several prominent roles from the early decades of Japanese feature films. He voiced the character Zhu Bajie in the 1960 animated film Saiyuki, known internationally as Alakazam the Great. He also provided the voice for the character Rock in his younger days for the 1963 film Wanko Chushingoku, or Doggie March. Another significant role was as the protagonist Sinbad in the 1962 film Arabian Nights: The Adventures of Sinbad.

In addition to his work in animated features, Kinoshita took on roles in television anime. He is credited as the narrator for the 1972 classic series Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. His voice work also extended to foreign film dubbing; he was part of the Japanese voice cast for the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Beyond acting, Kinoshita also performed in commercials. He notably voiced the character Dr. Ochanomizu, a creation of Osamu Tezuka, in advertisements for the Toshiba corporation.
