Leo Morimoto

Description
Leo Morimoto is a Japanese actor and narrator whose primary career has been in live-action film and television, with a limited number of voice acting credits in anime. He was born on February 13, 1943, in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Morimoto's most prominent and historically significant voice role is Shirotsugh Lhadatt in the 1987 anime film Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise. At the time of casting, Morimoto was 43 years old and a veteran of live-action roles, brought into the project specifically to achieve a more naturalistic and less stylized vocal performance than was typical for anime of that era. The film's director, Hiroyuki Yamaga, and sound director, Atsumi Tashiro, intentionally sought actors without extensive anime backgrounds to bring a sense of genuine emotion and freshness to the dialogue. Morimoto himself noted the difficulty of the role, as it required conveying emotion and character development through voice alone, a departure from his live-action work. Following this role, Morimoto's voice acting credits remain sparse but include the narrator role in the 2006 anime series Bartender, the narrator for the 2021 series Dragon Goes House-Hunting, and a voice role in a 2022 episode of the series Modern Love Tokyo. His filmography shows he has far more credits as a live-action actor than as a voice actor, with only four配音 (dubbing/voice acting) credits listed compared to over 140 acting roles. There is no readily available information on recurring collaborations with specific anime directors or studios beyond his foundational work on the Gainax film The Wings of Honnêamise.
