Description
Karen Bernstein is a Canadian former voice actress known for her work in English-language dubs of anime and animated series from the 1980s through the early 2000s. Her career in front of the microphone began with a live-action role in the 1977 film Why Shoot the Teacher? before she transitioned primarily to voice acting. She is recognized for providing the original English voice for the character Hello Kitty in the series Hello Kitty and Friends during the mid-1990s. Bernstein's most prominent and widely recognized role was as the original English voice of Sailor Mercury, known as Amy Anderson in the DiC Entertainment dub, for the first two seasons of the anime series Sailor Moon. She also reprised this role for the English-language versions of the first three Sailor Moon films: Sailor Moon R the Movie: Promise of the Rose, Sailor Moon S the Movie: Hearts in Ice, and Sailor Moon Supers the Movie: Black Dream Hole. Her other notable voice work in animation includes the roles of Tara Belle and Jett in Beverly Hills Teens, various characters in Tales from the Cryptkeeper, Olivia Owl in Birdz, and Tessie Bear in Noddy. Bernstein's voice can also be heard in additional roles on series such as The Magic School Bus. After retiring from voice acting in 2005, she transitioned to a new career as a talent agent, founding and running the agency KB Artists Management starting in 2017. A notable achievement in her career was her participation as a guest at the 2014 Los Angeles Anime Expo for Sailor Moon Day, marking a public engagement with the fandom for her iconic role.
