Wakoh Honna
Description
Wakou Honna is a Japanese manga artist whose professional career began in 2008 with the series Tonari no Bariyū, published on Shogakukan's mobile manga platform Moba Man. This early work marked the start of a long association with Shogakukan, which would publish her subsequent series across its various magazines and digital outlets.
Honna achieved significant recognition with her breakthrough series, Nozoki Ana, which was serialized digitally in Shogakukan's Moba Man from January 2009 to February 2013. The series, a seinen manga with mature themes, was collected into thirteen tankōbon volumes. Its narrative centers on two college students, Tatsuhiko Kido and Emiru Ikuno, who become entangled in a voyeuristic relationship after discovering a peephole connecting their adjacent apartments. The story uses this premise to explore complex themes of intimacy, emotional vulnerability, and psychological tension. The manga was later adapted into a single-episode original video animation released in 2013 and a live-action film in 2014.
From this universe, Honna created Nozo × Kimi, a spin-off manga focusing on characters from the same apartment complex. The series initially began as a short three-chapter work titled Nozomi and Kimio, serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday in early 2011. It was subsequently relaunched as a full series in Shogakukan's Shōnen Sunday S magazine from March 2012 to February 2014, followed by a second part serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday from May 2014 to April 2015. The eight collected volumes were accompanied by a three-episode original video animation produced by Studio Zexcs, released on DVDs bundled with special editions of the manga from August 2014 to February 2015.
Beyond these interconnected works, Honna has continued to create manga, with credits including Fureru to Kikoeru, which ran in Weekly Shōnen Sunday from 2015 to 2016, and HadaCamera, serialized in the digital magazine Sunday Webry from 2017 to 2019. Her body of work is characterized by a focus on seinen and shōnen demographics, often exploring interpersonal relationships with a mature and psychologically nuanced approach. The commercial success of her major titles, particularly Nozoki Ana, which saw significant download and sales figures, has established her as a notable creator in the realm of adult-oriented romance and drama within the manga industry.
