Friedrich Georg Beckhaus was a distinguished German actor and voice artist, born on December 11, 1927, in Berlin. He began his artistic career with acting lessons under the renowned Gustaf Gründgens in Düsseldorf, which led to various theater engagements in Hamburg and Berlin. From the 1960s onward, he became a familiar face in numerous German film and television productions. He is perhaps best remembered by audiences for his on-screen role as Astrogator Atan Shubashi in the iconic 1966 science fiction series Raumpatrouille – Die phantastischen Abenteuer des Raumschiffes Orion.

Starting in 1967, Beckhaus built an extensive and prolific second career in voice dubbing, known as synchronization in Germany. Over the decades, his voice became a staple for international film and television audiences, lending his distinctive tone to a vast array of actors. He was the regular German voice for renowned actors such as Robert Duvall, Harry Dean Stanton, Hector Elizondo, and Andrew Robinson, among many others. His voice work also extended to animation, where he was known to younger generations as the voice of the robot Grag in the anime series Captain Future and the dog Rantanplan in the Lucky Luke cartoons.

While Beckhaus's voice acting career was dominated by dubbing for live-action productions, he also contributed to the German-language versions of various anime series. In addition to his role as Grag in Captain Future, his work in this field included providing the German voice for Monsieur Benoir in The Perrine Story and Ochiai in an episode of Case Closed, also known as Detektiv Conan. A notable later role was as Talgia Hawkrey in the 2018 anime series Lost Song: Das Lied der Wunder, a fantasy story in which he lent his voice to this character. His long and impactful career was formally recognized in May 2019 when he was honored with the German Prize for Synchronization for his lifetime achievements. Friedrich Georg Beckhaus passed away on February 12, 2026, in Berlin, leaving behind a monumental legacy in German film, television, and voice acting.
